Group Sues to Stop Tinubu's 2027 Presidential Bid Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

The suit, marked FHC/K/CS/312/2026, names President Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Chicago State University as defendants.

According to the court documents, the organisation alleges that Tinubu submitted forged academic credentials from Chicago State University and a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to INEC during the 2023 presidential election.

The group also claims that Tinubu falsely stated he attended Government College Lagos, arguing that the school was established years after he was reportedly said to have completed his secondary education. It further contends that he does not possess a valid secondary school certificate, which it says is the minimum constitutional qualification required to contest for Nigeria's presidency.

The lawsuit further accuses INEC of failing to respond to a petition submitted by the organisation on June 19, 2026, requesting clarification on Tinubu's eligibility for the 2027 election.

As part of its case, the CFRPA referenced documents released during the 2023 U.S. court proceedings involving Atiku Abubakar and Chicago State University, alleging that the records contained inconsistencies.

The organisation is asking the court to declare the disputed certificates invalid, direct INEC to disqualify Tinubu from the 2027 presidential race, and order Chicago State University to remove his name from its records. It is also seeking a perpetual injunction preventing INEC from accepting or publishing Tinubu's name as a candidate for the election.

It is important to note that these are allegations currently before the court. No court has ruled on the claims, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not been found liable for any of the allegations.
