Breaking: Suspected IED Explosion Causes Panic at Mushin Market in Lagos
Traders and residents were thrown into panic on Monday morning after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, Lagos State.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the device was reportedly hidden beneath the passenger side of a parked vehicle and detonated when the vehicle's engine was switched on.
Following the incident, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operatives were immediately deployed to the scene. Security personnel cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough search, confirming that no additional explosive devices were found.
One person sustained injuries during the explosion and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical officials have since confirmed that the victim is in stable condition.
The Baale of Oke Mushin, Tajudeen Faronbi, stated that he alerted security agencies immediately after receiving reports of the explosion, leading to a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
Security operatives remain stationed around the market while forensic experts continue investigations to determine the source and motive behind the incident.
Authorities have urged residents and traders to remain calm, assuring the public that necessary measures are being taken to maintain security and prevent further threats.
